There are are a ton of different styles of exterior cases for your iPod, but not a whole lot of options are available for those who want a new actual encasing for the iPod. One of the cooler ones is set to come out within the next few months, potentially even sooner - and it’s totally see-through. It’s the iVue.
When I first saw it, I thought it was a picture of an opened up iPod, but in reality it’s the case - it claims to be scratch resistant too.
It uses the existing circuitry for the click wheel, and includes a DIY kit for self-installation (professional installation is an option, and it’s currently free if you pre-order before it comes out). It’s only $29.99 and you can get it for any 5th gen, 4th gen, or nano.

Hard Core! I’d say that judging by the popularity, the standard silicon case, or crystal clear case - requiring no drilling, soldering, hacksaws, or other tools are the best bet :)

Definitely - I really like that they give you a do-it-yourself toolkit to install the case, it’s handy to have in the future, too.
